Traveling and exploring are my top two favorite things in life. Nothing is more refreshing and rejuvenating than being in a foreign country and immersing myself in a completely different culture. The food, landmarks, the nightlife, its people, their practices – there’s always something beautiful to discover in new places!
It’s always great when I could catch a breath and just chill for a quick moment when traveling gets hectic. It’s even better that while I’m traveling, I discover exactly what can help me do just that: yoga.
Yoga in India
Yoga is paired with meditation – that’s just how it’s supposed to be. With full knowledge that it is in India where yoga and meditation are practiced widely throughout their culture, I took the chance to immerse myself in that area. It’s incredible how they have a wide variety of treatments, courses, and accommodations that are specific to yoga.
I took a beginner’s course in this place Pune. Apparently, this place is a hit in India, being one of the most popular schools for what they call asthang yoga. Let me tell you something, I thought yoga was one of those things that didn’t require anything but literally just your body, but this place surprised me. When I saw all these unique wooden gadgets, belts and ropes laid out in front of me, I had to make sure I was in the right place!
Kidding aside though, that was one heck of an experience. If you ever find yourself in India, get yourself on their yoga mats.
Yoga in America
Feeling like an expert at yoga when I came to America, I wanted to see how differently they did their yoga practices there. My itinerary was pretty full on that trip, but I still wanted to see what yoga and meditation meant to their culture.
Apparently, yoga is pretty big in America. I went online to check out what they had to offer and wow, Americans do love their yoga. Online courses, a good number of yoga studios, sports shops that provided yoga gear – they have everything! Probably not as sophisticated as what they have in India, but I mean, you can choose between doing yoga at home and heading down to a studio in your neighborhood. It’s pretty accessible!
Whatever motivates you to practice yoga, I say do it! Not only does it get you that ideal body you’ve been aiming for, but it also works great for your inner self. I know it sounds cheesy, but it really is worth the try!
